SunyaEk

At SunyaEk Computing, we collaborate with organizations working in some of Nepal’s most remote and underserved regions to build reliable and sustainable digital health systems. As part of this commitment, we successfully completed the second phase of system enhancement and support for Chay-Ya Nepal, focusing on improving server management, data transparency, dashboards, and overall system reliability.

This phase of work was implemented across five remote districts, Kalikot, Dolpa, Jajarkot, Mugu, and Humla, where Chay-Ya Nepal operates its telemedicine services. The objective was to strengthen the backend infrastructure and data systems that support clinical services, decision-making, and long-term program sustainability.

Project Overview

The second phase focused on reviewing system requirements, enhancing dashboards, implementing audit logs, conducting training and handover, and performing extensive testing and quality assurance. A multidisciplinary team from SunyaEk, including Health Information System experts, IT specialists, and public health professionals, worked closely with Chay-Ya Nepal throughout the process.

Key Areas of Work and Implementation

1. Requirement Review and System Analysis

A detailed review of existing system requirements was conducted to identify gaps and improvement areas. Special focus was given to:

  • Defining clear dashboard indicators
  • Addressing telemedicine implementation challenges, such as diagnosis verification and location-based access control
  • Ensuring system alignment with operational needs in remote settings

These discussions helped refine technical solutions that are practical and context-appropriate.

2. Training and Server Handover

A structured training and service handover session was conducted with Chay-Ya Nepal’s leadership and technical team. This included:

  • Hands-on training on server operations and system functionalities
  • Secure and transparent handover of server credentials
  • Guidance on accurate data entry and system usage

This ensured that the Chay-Ya Nepal team could independently manage and operate the system with confidence.

3. Audit Log Implementation for Transparency

To strengthen accountability and system transparency, an audit log feature was implemented. This allows:

  • Tracking of user activities such as logins, logouts, and system actions
  • Monitoring of system usage across all five districts
  • Identification of irregularities or unusual activity patterns

Audit data is also prepared for visualization on the dashboard, enabling better oversight and governance.

4. Dashboard Enhancements and Indicators

The dashboard was enhanced to provide clear, actionable insights for program monitoring and decision-making. Newly added indicators include:

  • Today’s total patients
  • Cumulative patient count
  • Patients by location
  • Top diagnoses overall
  • Top diagnoses by location

These indicators help Chay-Ya Nepal understand service utilization trends and regional health patterns more effectively.

5. Data Management and Transparency Requirements

To improve data completeness and reliability, system requirements were introduced to:

  • Verify whether symptom diagnosis and treatment data have been entered
  • Notify implementers when required data is missing
  • Allow uploading of prescription images when direct data entry is delayed, ensuring transparency and continuity of records

6. Testing, Debugging, and Quality Assurance

Comprehensive testing was carried out throughout the implementation phase. This included:

  • Resolving issues related to location-based patient data visibility
  • Continuous system monitoring and debugging
  • Ensuring smooth performance across all five districts
  • Testing server load, storage, and data accuracy

All identified issues were addressed by the SunyaEk team to ensure stable and reliable system performance.

Continuous Support and Collaboration

Beyond implementation, SunyaEk continues to provide technical support and system guidance to Chay-Ya Nepal. This includes troubleshooting, performance monitoring, and iterative improvements based on real-world usage and feedback from the field.

Conclusion

The second phase of collaboration with Chay-Ya Nepal significantly strengthened the foundation of their telemedicine system by enhancing data transparency, system accountability, dashboard visibility, and overall operational reliability. With comprehensive testing completed and continuous monitoring in place, the system is now well-equipped to support effective healthcare delivery and informed decision-making across some of Nepal’s most remote districts. Through partnerships like this, SunyaEk continues its commitment to building scalable, secure, and context-responsive digital health solutions that empower frontline healthcare services and create lasting impact.
